Escadaria Selarón / Selarón Staircase

After we left the Arches of Lapa, it was time to go back to our Bed and Breakfast.  Instead of walking back to the Cinelandia metro stop where we started our day, we decided to walk back with a stop at the famous staircase of Lapa, Escadaria Selarón. Escadaria Selarón is a 250-step staircase decorated with tiles by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón.  The tiles displayed come from 60 different countries as well as from garbage dumps in Rio.  This staircase was considered an ongoing work, as the artist, Jorge Selarón continued reworking it up until his death in January 2013.

We decided to climb all 250 steps just to say we "completed" this attraction.  Here is Paul at the top of the steps.

After climbing all the way up, we went all the way back down and then walked up another staircase (not decorated or of notable significance) on our way back to our bed and breakfast.  We were told that the road at the top of the Escadaria Selarón was not a safe road to walk back to our bed and breakfast.
